Preparing for 2025: Website Redesign and more

November 24, 2024

2025 is around the corner, and with a new year, it's time for a change.

Back in 2016, I started a blog as a way to document my journey as a designer and developer. My adventures with blogging lasted for about a year, but I wasn't able to keep up with it. Fast forward to 2024, and I'm ready to give it another shot.

Whatever-form content

I used to be obsessed with long-form content and detailed articles. However, I realized that one of the main reasons I wasn't able to keep up with blogging was the pressure to always come up with a shiny new long post. While I do agree that long-form content can be extremely valuable, I also believe that an idea shared in a non-exhaustive way is still a thousand times more valuable than an idea that never sees the light of day. That's why I'm shifting my focus to whatever-form content. This could be a tweet, a photo, a quote, a short post, or a long article. The idea is to share whatever I find interesting and worth saving for later.

A return to simplicity

I've redesigned my website probably a dozen times already. As a curious designer, I've always loved experimenting with new trends and fun ideas on my own site. This time, I wanted my site to be timeless. I asked myself "if I had to keep this site for the next 10 years, how would it have to look like?". What you're seeing now is the result of that question: a simple and nimble website that's easy to maintain and keeps the focus where it should be.

Goals for 2025

I've been a freelance designer & developer for almost 13 years. I've gotten plenty of opportunities to work with some amazing people, and make money along the way. However, with the exception of a few long-term clients, most of my work has always felt like I could have done way more for the client had our engagement been longer. My projects were not missing quality, but they were missing impact.

The economic landscape of the world has also changed since I started freelancing. Landing big projects for clients consistently used to be a given, but not so much anymore. As I approach my 32nd birthday, I realized I also need to start thinking about financial stability in the long term.

That's why I'm shifting my focus to impact and financial stability in 2025. First and foremost, this means I'm looking for a job. For the first time in 13 years, I'm looking to collaborate with a team on a full-time capacity and work on projects that have a lasting impact. I'll probably still take on freelance projects on the side, but I'll be able to be more selective about the kind of projects I take on once a stable income is in place.

If you’re working on a high-impact product with interesting challenges and think I might be a good fit for your team, get in touch!

Wrapping up

Something deep inside of me tells me 2025 is going to be huge. I'm excited to see where this new journey takes me. I hope you'll stick around to see what's next!
